We awoke to a rainy day in Toronto, but were hopeful that the weather out west was much better. Arriving early at the airport, we relaxed in the lounge and had a leisurely breakfast before boarding our flight to Calgary.
Here is Nadine settling in for the flight.
Getting close to Calgary, the weather appears significantly better than in Toronto.
Arriving in Calgary, we claimed our luggage, picked up our rental car, and headed for Lake Louise. Before reaching the hotel, we stopped at the Parks Canada office in Lake Louise for an update on trail conditions. Hopefully, this photo below shows the closest we will come to meeting a grizzly bear on this trip.
We checked into the hotel, and have a very nice 1 bedroom suite with a fabulous view over Lake Louise.
Here’s the living area, with views out in a few directions.
And here’s a look at the bedroom, with views toward Mt Whyte, Mt Niblock and the Beehives.
After getting settled, we took a short walk around the shoreline area before dinner. I’ve circled our room (#819) in the photo below.
We had 6:30 reservations for dinner in the Fairview Dining Room, so we headed back into the hotel. Since our bodies still felt like it was 8:30 back on eastern time, we were getting a little hungry.
After dinner, we went back to the room to get organized for our big hike tomorrow. The weather is supposed to remain nice, so we plan to be on the trails by 6:30 AM.
Looks like a great time so far. I am viewing the photos on my iPod and they all appear elongated.
That first day sure looks good. Thanks for the pics – your room looks like it was a great location – what a view.
