Day 28 – Returning Home

It’s now 9 PM on Saturday, May 1, and we have finally arrived back home to Newmarket!  We’re jet-lagged and completely exhausted after a busy adventure and a long journey.  I think I need a vacation to recuperate from our vacation!

The last four weeks have been fabulous, but I’m looking forward to getting back into a normal routine and not living out of a suitcase.

And now for some interesting numbers about the trip…

Our adventure was exciting, lasting 28 days, of which we spent 53 hours in flight and 21 hours hanging around airports.  We visited 11 airports in 5 countries.  We travelled 38,000 km by air and 2,700 km by rental car.  We stayed in 14 different hotel rooms.  I have no idea how many miles we walked.  Add in several ferry, train, helicopter, jet boat, cable car, bus and taxi rides, and we covered a lot of ground over the last four weeks.  We took over 5,000 photos and short video clips, filling more than 30 GB of computer memory!

The places we visited were wonderful, and if anyone is considering a trip to New Zealand, I thoroughly recommend it.  There are still number of places in New Zealand I’d like to see that we just couldn’t fit in to our schedule, so I know we’ll be going back again sometime (just not for a while).

I hope you enjoyed our trip reports.  I don’t know where our next vacation will take us, but I expect it will be much closer to home!

  1. Welcome back. Initially, it seemed that your trip was going by slowly – you were covering so much territory in so little time. And now, already, you’re home. I checked this blog daily and was disappointed when no new pictures or news was posted. Looks like your trip was fantastic – the pictures will keep it alive for years to come hopefully. Not sure what I’ll do now with no new postings.
